Why this verse?

What saith the Scriptures on the blood of Jesus.

With Easter approaching I thought we might take a look at what the Scriptures say about the blood of our Lord Jesus which was shed there at Calvary.

Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22v20
Let us never forget that the blood of our Lord Jesus was shed for us, but why was it shed?

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2v13
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, Hebrews 10v19
Wherefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Hebrews 13v12

Ah, how wonderful it is to consider that we who were so far from God have now been brought near to God. There was nothing we could do of ourselves and so God sent His Son to die on Calvary's cross that His blood might be shed for our sins. That we, who are but sinful rebellious creatures might be able to come into His presence. Not only can we come into His presence but we can come into His presence with boldness, confident that Christ's blood has washed all our sins away.

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13v20-21
While His blood has indeed brought us near to God, its work does not end with our salvation. Having been saved it now works in us to make us perfect that we might do God's Will. What a privilege we have that we might serve God.

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1v7
Yet sadly as we walk our lives done here, there will be times when we slip and fall for none of us is perfect. But praise God, we can come to Him and ask for forgiveness and cleansing from all sin, past, present and future, through Christ's blood shed for us at Calvary.

... Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Revelation 1v5-6
