Why this verse?

What saith the Scriptures on the Who of Creation.

This is the first in a series of artices that with the Lord's help I intend to write on the who, what, when, why, how of Creation. This article is on the Who of Creation, and covers two questions, who created? and who was created?

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1v1)
And God said, Let us make man in our image ... (Genesis 1v26a)
We begin at the beginning, the Bible right from the word go tells us that it was God who created the heaven and the earth. The interesting thing is that the words God and us in the two verses above are in the Hebrew plural. The Hebrew langauge is different from English in that it not only has the single and plural for words but also the dual. This means that the dual of the word is used when 2 are being spoken of, while the plural is reserved for 3 or more. So these verses tell us not only did God create the heaven and the earth but that there were 3 or more involved in Creation. This would point to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit all being involved in Creation. Admittably taking the fact that the words are in the plural on its own, there could theoretically have been more but only these 3 are spoken of in the Bible. Some of the verses that speak to us of their involvement in Creation are below.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Genesis 1v2)
Thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. (Psalm 104v30)
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3v9)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1v1-3)
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Hebrews 1v1-2)
In the first two verses above we see the Holy Spirit in relation to creation. The third and fourth both point to the Lord Jesus Christ being involved in creation. The last 2 quotes tell us that the Father created the world by His Son.
Some of you may wonder how we know that "the Word" who is referred to in the fourth quote, John 1v1-3 is the Son of God, Jesus Christ, to find this out please read the rest of John 1 in particular verses 14-18.

So we have answered the question who created? Now we come on to who was created?

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1v26-27
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. (Genesis 2v7-8)
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. (Genesis 2v21-22) But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. (Mark 10v6)

The first quote tells us that God created male and female. The second and third focus in on this creation and tells us that God created Adam and Eve.
The final quote is the Lord Jesus speaking and while He is actually talking about marriage and divorce, He tells us that God created both male and female.

So we have seen that it was the Godhead that created and us, male and female, that were created.
