Why this verse?

What saith the Scriptures on Homosexuality.

Leviticus 18v22: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: It is abomination.
Leviticus 20v13: If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Romans 1v26-27: For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

The Scriptures here are clear that homosexuality, whether it be between 2 men or between 2 women is an abomination to God. It is not just something he mildly dislikes it is something that is detestable. God doesn't suddenly change his mind and say something is acceptable now which was an abomination in those days. Under the law it was punishable by death. But what about under grace?

1 John 1v9: If we confess our sins, He [God] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteous.
1 John 5v16-17: If any man see his brother sin a sin, which is not unto death, he shall ask and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin and there is a sin not unto death.

Under grace the only sin unto death is failing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour. For all other sins, homosexuality as mentioned above being one of them, are recoverable. However, this verse reminds us that God will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteous, but only once we have confessed our sins. To confess a sin, you obviously first need to recognise it as a sin, until that time you are still tainted by this sin.
How should we react to someone we know committing this sin? John tells us that we should pray for that person.
