Why this verse?

What saith the Scriptures on Pornography.

Pornography seems to be slowly becoming part of the norm of our society today, one of those things that is acceptable to look at providing you don't cause anyone any harm. However, I want in this article to look at what the Bible says about it. Pornography often leads on to masturbation and I would recommend reading the article on masturbation after this one.

Matthew 5v28: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Let's face it the main reason for pornography is to cause us to lust after what we are seeing. When looking at it one starts to imagine things about oneself and the woman or man in the picture. The Lord Jesus here is quite clear that if we do this then it is as if we have already committed adultery with that person and therefore have already committed the sin.

Romans 1v27: For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections; for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature.
Some pornography will picture two men or more likely two women together. This verse here reminds us that homosexuality is a sin.

1 John 4v4: Ye are of God little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.
It is easy to get sucked in by pornography. What starts of as just sneak peeks, can get out of control and become an addiction. No addiction is easy to overcome, but remember, we have God on our side. While it may seem the world is stacked up against you, never forget that the Holy Spirit lives in you. If you are ready to break free then you can do with His help. You need to commit yourself to the Lord in prayer, daily (if not hourly) asking for His help. Some people overcome an addiction in an instance, others seem to fight a long hard battle but remember the Holy Spirit is within you and you will overcome with His help.

Colossians 3v2: Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
As well as seeking the Holy Spirit's help through prayer we also need to do something practical. Rather than focus on earthly things such as pornography you need to lift your mind to those things that are above. That is to focus on God. It is not easy but the more time spent focusing on God, the less time the devil has to distract you with pornography.

James 5v16: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Remember you are never alone in these things. Not only do you have the Holy Spirit within you but there are fellow Christians waiting ready to help you. Now I know it will require great courage for you to go and tell someone about this, and this is where the devil will have a go, trying to tell you how they won't understand or will laugh at you. However, remember the devil is just scared that you are trying to escape the trap he has set for you. There is strength in numbers, and while these things should not be published abroad, I do believe that you need to be able to tell a couple of close friends about this and seek their prayer help in overcoming this.
