What saith the Scriptures on Christ and why He died

And so Easter approaches, but just why did Christ die on the cross? Below are some of the answers to this question from the Scriptures.

Isaiah 53v5: But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. Matthew 20v28: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many. 1 Corinthians 15v3b: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures: Hebrews 9v28a: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many

Quite simply Christ died for our sins. He died to pay the price demanded by God for our sins, that we the guilty ones might go free.

Romans 5v6-8: For when we were yet without strength Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Christ died for us knowing that there was nothing we could do. These verses show us that Christ died for us because of God's love for us. We read of how incomparable God's love is, for when we were totally helpless, He sent His Son to die for us.

Romans 14v9: For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. 2 Corinthians 5v15: And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again. 1 Thessalonians 5v10: Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Christ died that He might be our Lord, that we might live for Him (the purpose we were created for) and not for ourselves. That we might live together with Him and not go out to a lost eternity.
